Fitch Downgrades Sprint Nextel's IDR to 'BB'; Outlook Negative
Debt ratings agency, Fitch has downgraded Sprint nextel's Issuer Default Rating (IDR) to 'BB' with a negative outlook. Fitch says that Sprint nextel's downgrade is reflective of the significant continued revenue declines primarily due to the high subscriber losses as well as the limited visibility over the timing and the extent of how overall operating trends might improve during 2009. In particular, the iDEN operations have continued a sharp deterioration of its operating metrics. more

Sprint Nextel Sells 3,000 Towers for $670 Million
Sprint nextel is to sell approximately 3,300 towers to TowerCo for approximately US$670 million in cash. Additionally, the two companies have entered into a long term leasing agreement where TowerCo will provide Sprint nextel with wireless communications towers to support the company's CDMA, iDEN and WiMAX networks. more

The upgrade also includes enhanced GPS capabilities, allowing support of popular applications such as Sprint Navigation. Sprint Navigation provides audio and visual turn-by-turn directions, more than 10 million local listings, and one-click traffic rerouting, similar to an in-vehicle GPS system. more
