Mexico Radio Spectrum Auction Could Raise $1.5 Billion
Mexico's government could look forward to charging US$1.5 billion for wireless radio spectrum which is due to be auctioned off later this year. Mexico's Iusacell Loses 600,000 Customers Due to Clean-Up
The Mexican mobile market finished the year on 77.93m customers with a below-par performance for customer growth in Q4 2008. In fact, the quarterly increase of 2.24m was the smallest gain since Q2 06 and the smallest fourth-quarter gain in five years. The main cause of this was Iusacell's loss of 0.56m customers as the result of a customer clean-up programme. more

Mexico Q2 2008 - Telcel maintains unparalleled dominance
Mexico has the second largest customer base in South America behind Brazil with 73.45m customers at the end of Q2 08. This is approximately the same size as the UK customer base, although the population of Mexico is almost twice that of the UK, with a figure of just under 110m. This yields a penetration figure of 66.8% at the end of the quarter, up from 57.1% a year earlier. Penetration has been increasing at a steady rate, and if there is no significant slowdown then the 75% mark should be reached during Q2 09. more

Signals Telecom Consulting has published a report which examines the Mexican mobile services market with a focus on the Value Added Services (VAS) offered by local mobile operators. The report notes that the Mexican market is characterized by a VAS offering focused on SMS services. The slowdown in subscriber growth and the development of 3G networks, however, will force operators to aggressively pursue a VAS offering that is not focused on text messaging. more

Mexico Q3 Market Update - Telcel reigns supreme
The total mobile market in Mexico grew to 64.57m customers at the end of Q3, with total net additions of 11.64m in the year. This is equivalent to an annual growth rate of 22.0%, an improvement on the 21.1% recorded in Q3 06. Penetration stood at 59.2%, up from 49.1% a year previously. In quarterly terms, net additions were at the lowest level of the calendar year so far, although the figure of 2.48m was still higher than the 2.28m recorded in Q3 06. more
