T-Mobile USA has proposed a settlement of a lawsuit against the company for charging early termination fees (ETF) to customers who close their account before their contract has expired. US Operator Subscriber Growth is "Optimistic"
A research note from Bernstein Research analyst Craig Moffett has warned that the US operators are being optimistic about their subscriber growth forecasts. He warned that the operators are all anticipating subscriber growth of around 4.6% for 2009, which is lower than the 5.9% achieved in 2008, but is still unlikely to be achieved. more

Fitch Downgrades Sprint Nextel's IDR to 'BB'; Outlook Negative
Debt ratings agency, Fitch has downgraded Sprint nextel's Issuer Default Rating (IDR) to 'BB' with a negative outlook. Fitch says that Sprint nextel's downgrade is reflective of the significant continued revenue declines primarily due to the high subscriber losses as well as the limited visibility over the timing and the extent of how overall operating trends might improve during 2009. Sprint Nextel Reports Loss of 1.3 Million Customers in Q4 '08
Sprint nextel has reported a fourth-quarter loss of US$1.62 billion, compared to the extraordinary loss of US$29.3 billion a year ago, caused by the US$29 billion write down of its nextel purchase. Revenue in the quarter also fell 14.4 percent to $8.4 billion as 1.3 million subscribers decided to leave the company. more
