Clearwire Aims for 31 Million WiMAX Subscribers by 2017

US WiMAX operator, Clearwire - which has been formed from the merger of the Clearwire and Sprint nextel divisions expects to have some 1.3 million subscribers by the end of 2009 and 4.6 million by the end of 2010. The company is forecasting revenues of over $17.5bn by 2017, by which time the company expects to have around 31 million subscribers.  more

Global W-CDMA base doubles as CDMA decline gathers pace

The dominance of the GSM family of technologies continued to increase in the year ended 30th September 2007 as a 25.9% increase in the number of 2G GSM customers was boosted by a 102.1% increase in the W-CDMA base. Overall the increase amounted to 28.8%, exceeding the global total of 24.2% and taking the proportion of the global customer base accounted for by the two technologies to 86.0% from 82.9% a year earlier.  more

Analysys Comments on Sprint/Clearwire WiMAX Divorce

News that Sprint nextel and Clearwire have called off plans to jointly build a nationwide WiMAX-based network has delivered a significant blow to the WiMAX community, says Analysys. Sprint nextel revealed on Friday that it would not be following through with the previously announced plans to build a mobile WiMAX network with Clearwire; at least not within the timescales previously mentioned.  more
