New York Taxis Using Sprint CDMA Network for Credit Card Transactions

US operator, Sprint nextel has fitted out some 6,600 taxis in New York City with a real-time integrated payment and information system, powered by its Mobile Broadband network and Sprint Data Link to ensure secure credit card transactions. The rollout was developed with VeriFone's U.S.-based taxi business, VeriFone Transportation Systems (VTS).  more

Sprint Nextel Offers Software Upgrade for HTC Smartphones

Sprint nextel is offering a software update for the HTC supplied Touch and Mogul smartphones to add support for EV-DO Rev. A data speeds as well as Windows Mobile 6.1. The upgrade also includes enhanced GPS capabilities, allowing support of popular applications such as Sprint Navigation. Sprint Navigation provides audio and visual turn-by-turn directions, more than 10 million local listings, and one-click traffic rerouting, similar to an in-vehicle GPS system.  more

Sprint Nextel Loses Patent Lawsuit

Legal firm, Dovel & Luner has announced that a Los Angeles jury has found Sprint nextel liable for infringing two patents owned by California company Enovsys. The jury returned its verdict and awarded Enovsys past damages of $2.78 million.  more

Worldwide Mobile Phone Sales Increased 16 Percent in 2007

Worldwide sales of mobile phones to end users surpassed 1.15 billion units in 2007, a 16 per cent increase from 2006 sales of 990.9 million, according to Gartner. Mobile phone sales at the end of the year were consistent with the yearly trend, as fourth quarter sales reached 330 million units.  more

Handset navigation users will reach 43 million in 2012
