Huawei Wins Italian WiMAX Contract
Huawei says that Italy's Retelit has awarded it a contract to deploy a WiMAX 802.16e network covering north and central parts of Italy where they own a BWA 3.5 Ghz frequency licence. Under this agreement, Huawei will provide an end-to-end WiMAX 802.16e mobile solution including Base Station, Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway, Hybrid TDM-IP Microwave equipment and Network Management Systems. more

3G Coverage Enabled for Commonwealth Conference in Uganda
Alcatel-Lucent says that it has successfully deployed the first UMTS/HSPA network for Uganda Telecom (UTL) in time for the Summit of Head of States of the Commonwealth which takes place in Uganda. It is one of the first such deployments in the East Africa region. The new part of the network is seamlessly integrated in UTL's existing network. more

Hughes Network Systems says that it has introduced a new version of its AB9000 LMDS system. Designed for backhaul of high-density 3G cellular traffic, the newly released version incorporates an 8-port STM-1 ATM multiplexer built into the LMDS hub station, eliminating the need for a stand-alone ATM switch at the base station. more

Nokia wins Austrian 3G contract
Hutchison 3G Austria has selected Nokia to expand its 3G WCDMA network. With this agreement Nokia will continue as the sole supplier for Hutchison 3G Austria's core network. In addition Nokia is supplying FlexiHopper microwave radio equipment. The expansion will increase Hutchison 3G Austria's core network capacity for the next years. Deliveries have already begun. more
