China to Allocate Additional Spectrum to 3G Networks

It has been reported that China is planning to allocate additional radio spectrum to the homegrown 3G service, by taking it from the low-cost XiaoLingTong local area wireless service. Xie Feipo, from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said that the ministry had asked fixed-line operators to return the PHS radio spectrum so it could be reassigned to the TD-SCDMA network.  more

China Unicom Starts 3G Trial

China Unicom is reported to have started a trial WCDMA based network in Baoding City in northern China's Hebei Province. Industry sources told the Interfax news agency that the trials have already commenced.  more

China Mobile Gets Lucky Number for its 3G Trial Service

Telefonica Looking to Increase Chinese Investment

Telefonica has not ruled out increasing its investment in China netcom Group in order to boost its holding in the future China Unicom network operator. Spain's Telefonica currently owns 5 percent of China netcom Group, which has been ordered by the government to merge with China Unicom. The agreement would dilute Telefonica's stake in the enlarged group so the company plans to increase its investment to maintain a 10 percent holding in the group, chairman Cesar Alierta told the Financial Times.  more

Dynamic growth is being predicted for both the number of contact centers and customer service agent positions in Asia Pacific. Market analysis firm Datamonitor puts this down to a combination of a growing middle class in China and India, the expansion in demand for products and services and the increase in offshoring.
