NXP to Transfer its Mobile Services Business to Gemalto
NXP Semiconductor has announced that it is selling its mobile services business to smartcard vendor, Gemalto for an undisclosed amount. The related unit based in France will continue to develop and market software and service solutions compliant with the MIFARE4Mobile interface specifications which manage MIFARE-based applications in Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile devices. more

Taiwan Mobile to Offer SIM based NFC Services

Operators to Launch NFC-Based Mobile Payment Services
Over the next several months, 12 mobile operators will run trials of contactless mobile payment services in Australia, France, Ireland, Korea, Malaysia, Norway, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey and the U.S. as a precursor to commercial launches. The trials form part of the GSMA's Pay-Buy-Mobile initiative, which is designed to provide a single global approach to enabling contactless payments using a mobile phone. Consumers will be able to use their handsets to quickly, easily and securely pay for goods and services in shops, restaurants and train stations. more

SIM based "Near Field Communications" Trial for Tawain
The smartcard vendor, Gemalto has set up a partnership with Taiwan's Far EasTone Telecommunications to start Asia's first mobile contactless SIM-based NFC (Near Field Communications) trial. This trial, starting in November and rolled out in phases, is part of the GSM Association's 'Pay-Buy Mobile' initiative which seeks to define a common global approach to using NFC technology to link mobile devices with payment and contactless systems. more

Elisa Testing Near Field Enabled SIM Cards
Elisa says that it is the first operator in the Nordic and Baltic countries to test Near Field Communication technology (NFC technology) where a SIM card is used as a security platform. SIM card, provided by digital security leader Gemalto, enables safe transactions and payments, and makes it possible to transfer services from one telephone to another. Gemalto also supplied the applications. more

Mobile Phones as Train Tickets
France's Bouygues Telecom says that it is testing a travel card integrated into a mobile phone in a trial covering the entire Paris mass transit authority (RATP) and Transilien SNCF suburban transit network in the Paris region. This new and innovative use of contactless technology could come into widespread use in the near future. more
