Global Semiconductor Sales Fell by 2.8 Percent in 2008

Global sales of semiconductors were severely impacted by the world-wide economic turmoil in 2008 resulting in the first year-on-year drop in sales since 2001, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reported today. Total sales for 2008 were $248.6 billion compared to $255.6 billion in 2007, a decrease of 2.8 percent. Sales fell from $22.3 billion in December 2007 to $17.4 billion in December 2008, a decline of 22 percent. December sales declined by 16.6 percent from November 2008 when sales were $20.9 billion.  more

Worldwide Chip Sales Up 5.4 Percent in First Half of 2008

Global sales of semiconductors for the first half of 2008 grew to $127.5 billion, an increase of 5.4 percent over the first half of 2007 when sales were $121 billion, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has reported. June sales of $21.6 billion were up by 8 percent from the $20 billion reported for June 2007. June sales increased by 0.5 percent from May, when sales were $21.5 billion. Second-quarter sales of $64.7 billion increased by 3 percent over first-quarter sales of $62.8 billion.  more
