Classic gamer join N-Gage platform
Nokia has announced that the classic games company, Atari is develop and license games for the n-gage platform. The first Atari titles for the n-gage are expected to be released in 2005 and will include Civilization, one of the most celebrated strategy games ever created and DRIV3R, the latest installment of Atari's hugely successful driving adventure franchise. Civilization and DRIV3R for the n-gage platform will combine familiar storylines and action with n-gage multiplayer features to create a new spin for these brands. more

Java Game revenues surging ahead
Mobile gaming will be key in driving the growth of mobile content and entertainment services, according to a new report from Analysys. The report predicts that the total Western European market for mobile games will grow more than tenfold from its 2002 value of US$230 million to nearly US$3.4 billion in 2008 - representing just over 19% of total revenue for mobile content and entertainment services. Nearly 80% of gaming revenue (US$2.7 billion) will be derived from downloadable games. more

SonyEricsson drops out of top5 vendors again
The worldwide market for mobile phones continued to grow in the third quarter of 2003, driven by strong demand for new handsets from first-time buyers in emerging markets as well as replacement buyers in mature markets. According to IDC's Worldwide Mobile Phone QView, worldwide mobile phone shipments grew by 21.2% year-over-year in 3Q03 and increased sequentially by 14.0% to 130.1 million units. Nokia maintained its top position in the market while LG Electronics regained the number 5 spot from Sony Ericsson. more

A Finnish programmer has created an emulator for Nokia Series 60 handsets (7650, 3650, n-gage, 6600) that allows it to act like the 1980's home computer, the Commodore 64. Frodo is a Commodore 64 home computer emulator, that was ported from Christian Bauer's original Frodo for Amiga. Porting for Epoc was done by Jal Panvel and Alfred E. Heggestad. Porting to Nokia 9210 and S60 was done by Hannu Viitala. more
