Fitch: MTS's Ratings Unlikely to Be Affected by Subsidiary's Finance Problems

­Fitch Ratings says that the ratings of Russia's Mobile TeleSystems's (mts) are unlikely to be affected by a court ruling against its subsidiary company, mts Finance. On 5 January 2011, an arbitral tribunal issued a final ruling against mts Finance, a Luxembourg company that was used as a vehicle to issue 2012 US$400 million bonds guaranteed by mts. mts Finance is liable to pay US$176 million plus interest and related costs, amounting to approximately US$210 million in total.  more

Russia's Mobile TeleSystems Swings Back into Profit

Russia's Mobile TeleSystems (mts) has reported that its first-quarter revenues rose by 23% to US$2.61 billion, while its net income reached US$381 million, compared to a loss of US$53.5 million a year ago. MTS Slumps to Q1 Loss on Foreign Exchange Losses

Russia's Mobile TeleSystems (mts) has reported that its first-quarter revenues dropped by 24% to US$1.8 billion, due to local currency depreciation and seasonal factors. The company also reported a net loss for the quarter of $57.7 million, compared to a profit of US$610 million a year ago. The loss was due to US$462.4 non-cash foreign exchange losses through US GAAP translation of US dollar-denominated debt.  more
