A new report from Telecommunications Management Group notes that while mobile telephone subscribers surpassed fixed line subscribers globally in 2002, mobile usage significantly lags fixed line usage. Hong Kong's Hutchison 3G has expanded its 3G network coverage from the concourse areas to the platforms and tunnels for Wan Chai to Chai Wan mtr stations. Together with Sheung Wan, Central and Admiralty stations which have enjoyed full 3G coverage earlier on, all 14 stations of the entire mtr Island Line, from Sheung Wan to Chai Wan, now support seamless mobile communications services. more

EDGE network launched in Hong Kong
Hong Kong's CSL has launched Asia's first commercial EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) network. Mobile customers in Hong Kong will now be able to enjoy data applications at a faster data transfer rate when using an EDGE capable device, such as the new Nokia 6220 video phone. Earlier this year, CSL signed an agreement with Nokia to deliver EDGE enhancements to CSL's existing GSM data network. more
