Chile Publishes Details of 3G License Tender

The Chilean telecoms regulator, Subtel has published the tender details for a round of 3G licenses, which it anticipates will bring a new entrant into the market. The auction for the licenses is due to be held in July, a notice on the regulators website announced.  more

Movistar posts 273% rise in net profits in Jan-Sep

The statement is the first time movistar has presented results under the new group name Telefonica Moviles Chile. In July the company completed its restructuring and merger of what were the former mobile operations of Bellsouth and the local mobile operations of Telefonica. Telefonica acquired Bellsouth's mobile operations in 10 Latin American countries in 2004. more

Barcodes on Spanish Mobile Phones

Scanbuy says that it has completed its mobile barcode platform created for Telefonica Moviles (TME) in Spain. Telefonica Moviles will now offer its movistar subscribers access to content by simply pointing their camera phone at a two-dimensional barcode, to be found in advertising, on TV, business cards or websites. more

MACH has announced that it will provide GSM roaming financial clearing and settlement services to Telefonica Moviles Colombia. Under the agreement movistar has outsourced the complete GSM financial clearing and settlement process to MACH, which will provide its MACH Finance solution. MACH will offer technical and financial specialist support for its services from its regional office in the Americas located in Curitiba, Brazil. more
