Chile Publishes Details of 3G License Tender

The Chilean telecoms regulator, Subtel has published the tender details for a round of 3G licenses, which it anticipates will bring a new entrant into the market. The auction for the licenses is due to be held in July, a notice on the regulators website announced.  more

Peru's Mobile Telephony to Surpass US$2.7 Billion in Revenues by 2013

Peru's Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversiƒ³n) plans to auction off 821 - 824 MHz and 866 - 869 MHZ radio-electric spectrum for Lima and Callao along with 25 MHz on C-band (1.900 MHz) nationwide. This bidding process is designed to increase the level of competition in the local marketplace as well as expand the availability of mobile coverage in the country.  more

Mexican Mobile Telephony Revenues Will Surpass $11.9 Billion Mark by 2013

Signals Telecom Consulting has published a report which examines the Mexican mobile services market with a focus on the Value Added Services (VAS) offered by local mobile operators. The report notes that the Mexican market is characterized by a VAS offering focused on SMS services. The slowdown in subscriber growth and the development of 3G networks, however, will force operators to aggressively pursue a VAS offering that is not focused on text messaging.  more

Uruguay's Ancel could lose mobile leadership in 2009

According to Rojas, competition between Antel's mobile unit Ancel, movistar Uruguay, owned by Spain's Telefonica, and CTI Movil, of Mexico's America Movil, is heating up and the crunch will come "in 2009, when the market reaches maturity and CTI really starts playing," Rojas said. more

Watchdog awaits green light to launch 3G auction

TDLC requested a report on the state of the market, which was handed in on Tuesday (Sep 4) and then updated with additional information requested by the TDLC on September 6. more
