Telefonica Testing "Idle Screen" Mobile Advertising
Telefonica's Argentinean mobile network has announced the launch of an "idle screen" marketing service which is operated by Celltick's LiveScreen Media platform. LiveScreen Media broadcasts news and information teasers as well as advertising messages, directly to the mobile phone's idle-screens, creating a network of personal billboards. Revenue from the service is generated from content downloads, subscription services and advertising fees. more

Microsoft and smart-card vendor, Gemalto have announced they are collaborating to offer Windows Live Messenger services to the mass market of mobile subscribers through a new Windows Live Messenger client application that comes pre-installed on phone Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards. Mexico - 75 million Mark Passed, 75% Penetration Beckons
The Mexican mobile market surpassed the 75m mark during Q3 08 to finish the quarter with just under 75.7m customers. In proportionate terms, annual growth continued the decline that began in Q3 07, although the rate of 17.2% was still a reasonably strong figure. At the end of the quarter penetration stood at 68.6%, up 9.4pp annually, and it thus seems a near- certainty that the 75% mark will be reached during 2009. more

Mobile Number Portability Rates Stable in Spain
