Ericsson maintains leadership among network equipment vendors

­Ericsson continued to strike a fine balance between growth and profitability in 2Q09, continuing its gradual migration to a services led approach to operator accounts. Both Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Siemens also relied more heavily on services in 2Q09, but Ericsson continued to lead the industry in both infrastructure and services revenue, reports Technology Business Research (TBR).  more

Motorola Completes TD-LTE Trials in China

motorola has announced the successful completion of its joint Over-the-Air (OTA) trial with Chinese operators as part of the collaborative Time Division Duplex Long-Term Evolution (TD-LTE) commercialization. All trial results have been submitted to the LTE/System Architecture Evolution (SAE) Trial Initiative (LSTI).

In addition to the collaborative trials with operators, motorola is engaged with the TD-LTE trials initiated by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) as part of its efforts to develop a globally competitive TD-LTE industry. motorola's Wireless Broadband Access Solutions (WBAS) Hangzhou team and Wideband Base Transceiver Systems (WBTS) China team have been working with Chinese operators for many years and can provide insights on local needs.  more

Jordan Gains its 3rd WiMAX Network Operator

A third WiMAX network has been launched in the Middle-Eastern country of Jordan, based on network infrastructure supplied by motorola. Initially, coverage is being offered in the capital, along with the major cities of Irbid and Zaraq. The network, being operated by Mada Communications will be expanded nationwide eventually.  more

3G-4G to Account for 30% of Global Wireless Subscriptions by 2013

At the end of 2008, only 11% of worldwide wireless subscriptions were 3G. By the end of 2013, the percentage of 3G and 4G subscriptions will reach 30%, reports In-Stat. This trend is reflected in fourth quarter 2008 wireless infrastructure contract awards.  more

Motorola Opens LTE Test Center in the UK

motorola says that it has opened a LTE trial network and testing lab in Swindon, UK. This latest expansion of motorola's LTE trial facilities offers operators the ability to engage in LTE technology field trials and detailed real-world equipment testing at the UK site. Additionally, motorola can host the core elements of the LTE network for operators that require a hosted LTE trial in EMEA.  more
