Russia's Comstar has announced that the test phase of its mobile WiMAX network project has been completed, and the network will be fully launched from next week. Russia's Comstar has soft launched a wireless broadband network in moscow, which is based on standard 802.16e WiMAX technology. Nortel Providing WiMAX Kit for Moscow Network
Russia based Comstar has selected Nortel equipment to develop the first mobile WiMAX network in moscow. 160 base stations are expected to be built in moscow by the end of 2008. The overall investments in the project are expected to amount to approximately US$20 million in 2008. more

Comstar UTS wants to build WiMAX network in 16 Russian regions
moscow, Oct 19 (Prime-Tass) -- Russian telecommunications operator Comstar United Telesystems, or Comstar UTS, has applied for getting frequencies in the 2.5 gigahertz to 2.7 gigahertz frequency range to build a WiMAX network in 16 Russian regions, Sistema Telecom's Deputy General Director for Strategy Sergei Baida said, Kommersant business daily reported Thursday. more
