Nortel Providing WiMAX Kit for Moscow Network

Russian CDMA Operator to Offer Hosted BREW Services

Russian CDMA operator, Sky Link is to commercially launch BREW wireless data services in 31 regions of the Russian Federation, as well as in countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Eastern Europe, including Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Under the terms of the agreement, Sky Link will not only deliver BREW services to subscribers within its network of licensed territories, but also host BREW services on behalf of regional operators to deliver advanced mobile content to millions of people.  more

VimpelCom Gets GSM License Extension

Russia's VimpelCom has announced that its licenses for GSM 900/1800 mobile radio telephony communications in 50 regions of the Russian Federation have been extended by issuance of new licenses. The licenses have been extended pursuant to the Federal Law On Communications and on the basis of order of the Federal Service for Supervision over Mass Communications, Telecommunication and Protection of Cultural Heritage of December 6, 2007.  more

Russian Military to Permit 3G Services in Moscow

Russia's Defense Ministry has agreed to allow 3G frequencies to be used in the moscow region - finally permitting the launch of 3G services by the end of this year. The Ministry had blocked the launch of 3G services as it used some of the frequencies for its own missile warning system.  more

According to a new report from the market research and industry analysis firm Maravedis, the Russian Federation remains among the world's top five Wireless Broadband opportunities. The Russian economy is flourishing. GDP per capita has risen from $4000 in 1999 to $12,000 in 2006 . The demand in telecom services is rapidly outpacing the capacity of legacy infrastructure. Boingo Secures Wi-Fi Roaming in Moscow

The Wi-Fi aggregator, Boingo Wireless says that it has signed a roaming agreement with Golden Telecom, to include the Golden Wi-Fi network in moscow officially recognized as the world's largest metropolitan Wi-Fi network. The addition of Golden Telecom's Wi-Fi network marks Boingo's first expansion into Russia. The metropolitan Wi-Fi network gives Boingo blanket coverage of moscow through more than 7,500 Wi-Fi access points integrated into a single network.  more
