Qualcomm Shows Off Rural Mobile PC Base
Qualcomm has launched an alternative PC - which it aims to make available for rural and emerging markets where landline access to the internet is not available. Qualcomm and Foxlink Sign 3G CDMA License Agreement
Qualcomm and Taiwan based Cheng Uei Precision Industry, (Foxlink) have entered into a module/modem card patent license agreement. Under the terms of the royalty bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted Foxlink a worldwide patent license to develop, manufacture and sell modules and modem cards implementing the CDMA2000(R), WCDMA and/or TD-SCDMA standards. more

Icera to Acquire Sirific Wireless for RF CMOS Technology
UK based software defined wireless modem chipset developer, Icera has announced plans to merge with Sirific Wireless, a fabless semiconductor company specializing in CMOS RF transceivers. Icera says that the merger will enable it to deliver a complete chipset solution for the mobile broadband market, which industry analysts expect to grow from just 90 million subscribers today to 1.3 billion by 2012. more

Qualcomm Updates Q1 2008 Financial Outlook
Qualcomm has upgraded its business outlook and is now projecting pro forma revenues to be at the high end of the prior guidance of approximately $2.3 to $2.4 billion compared to $2.02 billion in the year ago quarter. This estimate is based on the shipment of approximately 78 million Mobile Station modem (MSM) chips during the quarter as compared to the prior estimate of 74 to 78 million units. more

Qualcomm Announces Support for WCDMA in 700 MHz Band
Qualcomm says that it has now added support for CDMA2000 and WCDMA services in the 700 MHz band to its product roadmap. Qualcomm's RTR6570 transceiver delivers support for the 700 MHz band to CDMA2000 and WCDMA devices. The transceiver also supports all other frequency bands in the United States, including 850 MHz, 1700/2100 MHz, and 1900 MHz for CDMA2000. The RTR6570 is a CMOS transceiver that is scheduled to sample mid-2008, enabling commercial devices to be ready for the first 700 MHz service launches expected as early as the beginning of 2009. more
