Sri Lanka Telecom Results - Mobitel Consolidates 2nd Place
Sri Lanka Telecom, which operates the mobitel mobile network in Sri Lanka, has reported its Q4 07 Results, which reveal impressive growth to the subscriber base. Quarterly net additions of 288.2k - a company record - took the total number of subscribers to 1.401m at the end of 2007, with proportionate quarterly growth at 25.9%. Although this is slightly below the 28.9% recorded in Q4 06, it is still an excellent result. more

Mobitel Slovenia - Overall Decline Offset by 3G Growth
mobitel Slovenia's Q4 07 results show that it lost customers for the fifth successive quarter, finishing the year on 1.26 million. However, the loss was limited to 1.2% year-on-year, and given mobitel's dominant position in the Slovenian market this is not an overly worrying result in terms of the overall balance of power in the market. more

Slovenian Operator Sees Mobile Internet Use Surging
The Slovenian mobile operator, mobitel has announced that the total number of visitors to its "Planet" mobile internet portal has now surpassed one million. The introduction of free browsing on the Planet stimulated the usage, and there is also an increasing interest in mobile video content on the Planet. Last year the mobile Planet was thoroughly overhauled. There are now over 200,000 regular visitors of the mobile Planet, and since its introduction the mobile Planet has counted over a million different visitors. more

New GSM Network Launched in Kosovo
Kosovo's newest GSM network, Ipko has commercially launched its services, according to a note from infrastructure supplier, Ericsson Nikola Tesla. The two companies originally signed a contract in June 2007 to build out a greenfield network in a contract worth EUR37 million (US$49.8 million). The network operator is a consortium comprised of Telekom Slovenija, mobitel and Ipko. more

Fitch Affirms Sri Lanka Telecom's Debt Ratings
Fitch Ratings has affirmed Sri Lanka Telecom Plc's (SLT) Long-term foreign currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at 'BB-' (BB minus) with a Negative Outlook. At the same time, the agency has affirmed SLT's Long-term local currency IDR of 'BB-' (BB minus), as well as its National Long-term rating at 'AAA(lka)' with Stable Outlooks, along with the 'BB-' (BB minus) rating on its senior unsecured notes maturing in 2009. more
