MobiNil Profits Down on 3G Costs and Debt Interest
Eygpt's mobinil, which is in the midst of a tussle between Orascom and France Telecom has posted a 6% drop in first-quarter profits to EGP424 million (US$75 million) - below most analysts expectations. Imputed interest amounts relative to 3G installment payments charged during the first quarter amounted to EGP 29 million and higher interest costs are the main driver for the decrease. more

Mobinil Awarded 3G License in Egypt
Egypt's mobinil has confirmed recent reports that it has been granted a 3G license by the Egyptian regulator, NTRA. mobinil acquired the 15-year 3G license against EGP 3.34 billion (US$610 million) in addition to 2.4% of its total annual revenues. more

Mobinil Buys Egypt's Last 3G License
Egypt's mobinil (Egyptian Company for Mobile Services) says that it has paid EGP3.4 billion (US$599 million) for a 3G license and will pay the fee in installments over the next few years. The company had been reluctant to take up the offer of a 3G license, but recent growth and the fact that the other two operators took a license seems to have spurred the change of mind. more
