Fitch Ratings has affirmed UAE-based Etisalat's Long-term foreign currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at 'AA-'. The Outlook on the IDR is Stable. The rating reflects Fitch's assessment of the sovereign's creditworthiness, given Etisalat's strong operational and strategic ties with the UAE government and in the short term this is likely to be the key driver of any potential rating actions. more

Huawei Wins Managed Services Deal in Saudi Arabia
Huawei announced today that it has been selected by Saudi Arabia's mobily as its managed services partner under a three-year multi-vendor agreement. Under the agreement, Huawei will be responsible for network operations, back office, field operations, network optimization and spare parts management. Additionally, Huawei will be maintaining multi-vendor telecom equipment and acting on behalf of mobily to manage multi-vendor spare parts and 3rd level support. more

The mobile market in the Middle East and Africa seemed to slow down in the second quarter of 2007. Indeed, we have to go back four years, to the second quarter of 2003, to find its equal. In both periods, the market grew by 8.0%, but while this implied fewer than 5 million new connections in 2003, in 2007, it meant 24 million.
