Fitch Ratings Affirms Etisalat's Debt Outlook as Stable

Fitch Ratings has affirmed UAE-based Etisalat's Long-term foreign currency Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at 'AA-'. The Outlook on the IDR is Stable. ­The rating reflects Fitch's assessment of the sovereign's creditworthiness, given Etisalat's strong operational and strategic ties with the UAE government and in the short term this is likely to be the key driver of any potential rating actions.  more

Samsung Wins Saudi WiMAX Expansion Contract

Saudi Arabia's mobily has inked a SAR 375 million (US$100 million) contract with Samsung for a WiMAX network covering 20 cities in the Kingdom through subsidiary firm, Bayanat Al Oula. mobily brought Bayanat Al-Oula last year, and continued the expansion of the latter's WiMAX Wave1 network in the four major cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Al Khobar.  more

Mobily Upgrades 40 More Saudi 3G Base Stations

Saudi Arabia's mobily says that it has upgraded 40 more of its base stations in the Eastern Region to support higher mobile data speeds. The upgrades included sites in Dammam, Khobar, Dhahran and the Jubail Industrial City and the Dammam Port, as well as the towns of Sihat, Qatif and Kalabia in Ahsaa.  more

The Fastest Growing Mobile Operators in Africa/Mid-East

The chart shows the fastest growing businesses in the MEA region over a twelve month view. The list includes nine of the names that feature in the Q1 08 list, with Zain Iraq coming in at Algerie Telecom MobileÃ's expense. The top two places are the same in the year as they are in the quarter, with TCIÃ's 9.12m just shading IrancellÃ's 7.95m. The other really strong performances in the region were spread across five main markets - with mobily in Saudi Arabia taking third place ahead of two Egyptian companies, three from Nigeria and one each from Iraq and Kenya.  more

Huawei Wins Managed Services Deal in Saudi Arabia

Huawei announced today that it has been selected by Saudi Arabia's mobily as its managed services partner under a three-year multi-vendor agreement. Under the agreement, Huawei will be responsible for network operations, back office, field operations, network optimization and spare parts management. Additionally, Huawei will be maintaining multi-vendor telecom equipment and acting on behalf of mobily to manage multi-vendor spare parts and 3rd level support.  more
