Mobilink Sees Pakistan Subscriber Base back Above 30 Million

­Pakistan based mobile network operator, mobilink has reported that its subscriber base grew by 900,000 net additions in Q3 2009 to reach just over 30 million. The customer base was down 4.2% year on year, as a result of the subscriber base clean-up undertaken throughout 2008 and early 2009, but has been growing throughout Q2 and Q3 09.  more

Pakistan's Mobilink Debt Ratings Downgraded

­Moody's Investors Service has downgraded Pakistan mobilink Communications (mobilink) B1 local currency corporate family rating to B2; at the same time mobilink's B3 senior unsecured bond rating has been downgraded to Caa1; the outlook on both ratings is negative.  more

Standard & Poor's Raises Rating on Pakistan's Mobilink

­Standard & Poor's Ratings Services said today it raised its long-term corporate credit rating on Pakistan-based wireless service provider Pakistan Mobile Communications (mobilink) to 'B-' from 'CCC+'. The outlook is stable. At the same time, the ratings agency raised its issue rating on the company's US$112.2 million senior unsecured notes due 2013 to 'B-' from 'CCC+'.  more

Increasing Demand for CDMA450 Based Mobile Phones

The CDMA Development Group (CDG) says that increased uptake of CDMA2000 in the 450 MHz frequency band, also known as CDMA450, is placing an increased demand for new multi-mode and multi-band devices. Orascom Telecom Q1 Down on Currency Devaluations

Egypt's Orascom Telecom has reported a 66 percent drop in its first-quarter profits to US$72 million - largely due to local currency devaluations against the US Dollar. Revenues dropped by 4 percent to US$1.2 billion.  more

Pakistan Mobile Buys Back Debt - Risks Ratings Downgrade

Pakistan Mobile Debt Buyback Plans Trigger Default Warning

The debt ratings agency, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services has warned that it considers Pakistan Mobile to be at risk of defaulting on a debt repayment. The mobile operator, owned by Orascom Telecom Holding recently announced plans to repurchase for cash up to US$100 million of its $250 million bonds due 2013, at a 23%-30% discount to face value.  more

Ditech deployed by 4 mideast carriers for call quality

Ditech Networks says that its voice processing platforms are now deployed by four major mobile operators in the Middle East region. Algerian carrier Djezzy, EgyptÃ's Mobinil along with PakistanÃ's mobilink and a fourth unnamed operator are implementing DitechÃ's Voice Quality Assurance (VQA) solution to provide their subscribers with superior mobile call quality without purchasing additional spectrum or network infrastructure, a common issue in this region. more

Orascom Shuffles Management Around

Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) has shuffled its management - moving the current CEO of Bangladesh's banglalink, Rashid Khan to head up Pakistan's mobilink, while appointing Ahmed Abou Doma to take over the vacant spot at banglalink. The vacancy at mobilink was caused when the current CEO, Zouhair Khaliq was moved to Oracap, OTH's fully controlled subsidiary established in late 2007 to serve as the Group's banking arm.  more
