Almost One in Five Singapore Connections are 3G

Singapore's three mobile players have recorded fourth quarter net additions figures closer together than ever, with Singtel, M1 and Starhub taking 29.6%, 39.5% and 30.9% of the new customers, respectively, between September and December. Q4 2006 saw mobileone (M1) - now Singapore's smallest operator - record the highest number of net additions in the market, as a result of reducing overall churn to a low for the year of 1.3% per month. more

Singapore Operator Profit Rises Slightly

Singapore's mobileone has reported that year on year, profit before tax for the first three quarters of this year increased by 2.3% to S$158.4 (US$101) million and net profit after tax went up 0.6% to S$124.8 (US$79.3) million on operating revenue of S$572 (US$364) million. Net profit margin on service revenue rose by 1.1 percentage points to 24.5%. more

Nokia Wins Singaporean HSPA Contract

Nokia and Singapore's mobileone (M1) have entered into an agreement for the supply of the first High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network in Singapore valued at US$30 million. Under the agreement, Nokia will upgrade M1's core network as well as provide a software upgrade and other services including network optimization. Also, included are deployment services consisting of installation, commissioning, integration and acceptance testing of the network. more

Huge Fine For Spam SMS

The Singapore based mobile content provider, mTouche, has been fined US$93,000 by the telecoms regulator - the IDA, for allowing its corporate customer, MyGlobalfun, to access its customer database to send out almost 300,000 unsolicited and chargeable Chinese New Year SMS greetings. Specifically, mTouche failed to inform mobile end users that they would be charged for the SMS sent; they did not get end users' consent before sending out chargeable and unsolicited SMSes; they disclosed their end users' mobile phone numbers to a third-party without the mobile end users' prior consent. more

SingTel Could Pay Up To S$4.2 Billion In Dividend For FY06 - Analysts

Singapore Operator Sees Shrinking Subscriber Base

Singapore's mobileone (M1) has reported that it ended last year with 1.246 million customers made up of some 809,500 postpaid customers and 436,200 prepaid customers. This is the first time that the company has reported a fall in its subscriber base. Whilst the contract customer base had risen slightly from 807,000 to 809,500 - the company say a significant fall in their PrePay base from 451,000 to 436,200. more
