Comstar Soft Launches WiMAX Network in Moscow

Russia's Comstar has soft launched a wireless broadband network in Moscow, which is based on standard 802.16e WiMAX technology. The full commercial launch of the wireless network using the 2.5-2.7 GHz frequency range and based on Nortel technological solutions is expected to be implemented in the second quarter of 2009.  more

Oulu Finland Launches Free Mobile WiMAX Network

Oulu Innovation has announced that the city of Oulu, Finland is launching a MobileWiMAX-based wireless broadband network to enhance the city's current wireless development and testing platforms. Together with the panOULU and Octopus networks, the planned Mobile WiMAX network will be a part of Oulu's existing wireless network constellation and is expected to be deployed in December 2008.  more

Comstar Completes Building First WiMAX Network in Armenia

Russia based, Comstar has announced that its Armenian subsidiary, Cornet-AM, an Internet services provider has built the first mobile WiMAX network in the Republic of Armenia. The wireless broadband network, based on the 802.16e standard, consists of 24 base stations which are connected to each other via radio relay lines and rented telecommunications channels. Airspan Networks has provided network equipment.  more

Sprint, Clearwire Promise Two-Way Internet Video

Taiwan's Fitel Deploys Starent Networks WiMAX Kit

Starent Networks has announced Taiwan's First International Telecom (Fitel) has deployed Starent Networks' solutions to enable multimedia services through its mobile WiMAX network. Fitel provides mobile communications services through its network to more than one million subscribers. In 2007, Fitel acquired spectrum for a WiMAX network in Northern Taiwan.  more
