Wave 2 Devices to Drive WiMAX Fixed and Mobile Wireless Markets
The next generation of WiMAX devices will allow the 802.16 industry to make gains in both the fixed and mobile wireless markets, according to a new report from Visant Strategies. WiMAX vendors are luring carriers to WIMAX Wave 2 devices prior to certification via the economic advantages of utilizing multiple-in/multiple-out (MIMO) antenna technology and with the promise of proven interoperability. WiMAX Expansion for the Dominican Republic
Airspan Networks has announced that the Dominican Republic based, Tricom has awarded it a contract to supply its WiMAX solutions in the licensed 3.5GHz frequency band in order to expand their network. Airspan will supply Tricom with its HiperMAX base stations and related CPEs (customer premise equipment), which support 802.16e-2005 Mobile WiMAX services in both indoor and outdoor base station configurations. more

Four New WiMAX Devices from Samsung
Samsung Electronics has unveiled its four latest Mobile WiMAX devices to the Korean market. The devices have been upgraded from previous Mobile WiMAX devices in terms of design and functions. One PDA type(SPH-M8200), one mobile convergence device(SPH-P9200), and two USB modem type(SPH-H1300, SWT-200K) devices have been launched. All four Mobile WiMAX devices are currently available through Korea Telecom's Mobile WiMAX network. more

US Mobile WiMAX Market Moves from Uncertain to Vibrant
Just a little over a year ago, most people thought the United States would only see deployments of fixed WiMAX in rural areas with no DSL or cable modem service. During the summer of 2006, however, those who did not see the bigger picture got a reality-check. In July, Clearwire made a firm commitment to shift its proprietary network to mobile WiMAX, receiving investments from Intel and Motorola. Shortly afterwards, Sprint Nextel announced its plans to deploy mobile WiMAX to make use of its extensive 2.5 GHz spectrum, becoming the first major mobile operator to commit to WiMAX. more
