3G-4G to Account for 30% of Global Wireless Subscriptions by 2013

At the end of 2008, only 11% of worldwide wireless subscriptions were 3G. By the end of 2013, the percentage of 3G and 4G subscriptions will reach 30%, reports In-Stat. This trend is reflected in fourth quarter 2008 wireless infrastructure contract awards.  more

Cisco Powers Mobile WiMAX Network in Moscow and St. Petersburg

Russia's Scartel (trading as Yota) has launched a Mobile WiMAX network within the Sadovoye Ring in Moscow and at the Vassilyevsky Island and Petrogradsky District in St. Petersburg. The entire Yota core transport network is powered by Cisco service provider technologies.  more

Cisco Wins Thailand WiMAX Contract

Thailand's TT&T is deploying the first Cisco based WiMAX network in Asia Pacific at Mae Fah Luang University. This will also be the first production WiMAX network in Thailand once the rollout is completed in September.  more

Comstar Completes Building First WiMAX Network in Armenia

Russia based, Comstar has announced that its Armenian subsidiary, Cornet-AM, an Internet services provider has built the first mobile WiMAX network in the Republic of Armenia. The wireless broadband network, based on the 802.16e standard, consists of 24 base stations which are connected to each other via radio relay lines and rented telecommunications channels. Airspan Networks has provided network equipment.  more

Sales of Wi-Fi phones up 60%, wireless LAN equipment up 20% in 2007

Worldwide sales of wireless LAN equipment, including independent and dependent access points and WLAN switches and controllers, hit $1.9 billion in 2007, up 20% from 2006, driven by the increased rollout of enterprise wireless LANs and accelerating upgrading to 802.11n, according to Infonetics Research's latest quarterly report.  more

Samsung Tops WiMAX Equipment Charts

Samsung has been ranked at the top of the latest Vendor Matrix for WiMAX equipment vendors released by ABI Research. Motorola and Cisco Systems claimed the second and third spots in the company's new evaluation of worldwide mobile WiMAX equipment vendors. The Vendor Matrix is an analytical tool developed by ABI Research to provide a clear understanding of vendors' positions in specific markets.  more

WiMAX equipment market up 46% in 2007

The WiMAX market sequentially grew 11% for the quarter and 46% for the year, with worldwide sales of fixed and mobile WiMAX equipment hitting just under $800 million in 2007, says Infonetics Research in its latest report.  more
