1.45 Million BWA/WiMAX Subscribers Added in 2008

Worldwide, approximately 1.45 million BWA/WiMAX subscribers were added during 2008, while the WCDMA subscriber base increased by more than 90 million. The average quarter-over-quarter subscriber growth rate in 2008 was 21.5%, according to the 7th issue of the 4GCounts Quarterly Report from Maravedis.  more

Nortel and Alvarion to Break-Up WiMAX Partnership

Nortel, which is currently seeking bankruptcy protection, and Alvarion are to break up their WiMAX joint venture - which was only entered into last June. Alvarion says that it is analyzing the details of actions it will take to mitigate the impact on its business, and expects to provide more information about these actions during its fourth quarter 2008 financial results conference call next month  more

Alvarion Wins Taiwanese WiMAX Contract

Alvarion has signed a contract with Taiwan's VMAX Telecom to deploy Mobile WiMAX, beginning in the Taoyuan and Hsinchu counties, in Northern Taiwan. Under the terms of the agreement, Alvarion will provide VMAX Telecom with its WiMAX Forum Certified BreezeMAX 2500 base station, as part of the company's 4Motion solution.  more

Sprint, Clearwire Sued Over WiMAX Patent Claims

Adaptix, a Texan WiMAX base station and mobile terminal vendor has launched legal action against Sprint Nextel and Clearwire for allegedly infringing six of its patents. The company is demanding the usual damages, fines and a bar on the company from continuing the rollout of its nationwide WiMAX network.  more

Anite has announced the launch of its Mobile WiMAX Host Tester for Mobile Station Stack developers and integrators. For mobile handset and base station developers, AniteĆ's Host Tester (HT) allows the user to test the protocol stack in isolation of any hardware.
