Alvarion to Deploy Mobile WiMAX Network in Cameroon

Alvarion has been chosen by 4G Africa to deploy the first Mobile WiMAX network in Cameroon. The deployment in the cities of Douala and Yaoundé, two of Cameroon's largest metropolitan areas with a total population 5 million people, will provide coverage using Alvarion's end-to-end Mobile WiMAX 4Motion solution at the 2.5 GHz frequency band.  more

Samsung Wins Ukrainian Mobile WiMAX Contract

Ukraine based mobile WiMAX network, Intellecom has signed a contract for Samsung to supply Mobile WiMAX solutions for the expansion of its network. Following the successful initial deployment of Mobile WiMAX in Kyiv and Kharkiv, Intellecom plans to expand its Mobile WiMAX service coverage to the four largest cities in Ukraine by June 2011 and then gradually extend nationwide by 2013.  more

Samsung Wins Bulgarian Mobile WiMAX Deployment Contract

Bulgaria's Max Telecom has selected Samsung Electronics as its sole 3.5GHz Mobile WiMAX vendor. Max Telecom plans to upgrade its commercial Mobile WiMAX service with Samsung's technology in Bulgaria at the end of 2010, and will expand the Mobile WiMAX service to a nationwide coverage for the population of 7.6 million by 2012.  more

Samsung and Thales to Develop TETRA Based WiMAX and LTE Devices

Samsung Electronics and the defense contractor, Thales are to jointly develop and market a 4G based PMR (Public Mobile Radio) plaform for use by public safety and security organisations. Samsung's Mobile WiMAX Solutions Reach 200 million people

Samsung Electronics says that WiMAX networks based on its network infrastructure can now cover 200 million people, with 3 million subscribers across multiple networks. Samsung provides its equipment to 56 Mobile WiMAX operators in 34 countries. Samsung is present in 13 countries in Asia, 8 countries in Middle East and Africa, 7 countries in Europe and 6 countries in the Americas.  more

WiMAX 2 Standard Expected to Launch in 2012

The WiMAX Forum is aiming to have its next standard completed and ready for network deployment by the start of 2012. WiMAX 2, formally known as 802.16m promises to offer average downlink speeds of more than 100Mbps to users, compared to peak download speeds of 100Mbps for LTE networks.  more

WiMAX Forum Announces First Certified MIMO 2.3 GHz Mobile Products

The WiMAX Forum has announced the first products to receive the WiMAX Forum Certified Seal of Approval for the MIMO 2.3 GHz profile. The completion of the 2.3 GHz certification testing profile allows WiMAX Forum designated labs to accept tri-band (2.3, 2.5 and 3.5 GHz) products and immediately begin the certification process.  more

Samsung Wins Kazakhstan Mobile WiMAX Contract

Kazakhstan's Alem Communications has selected Samsung Electronics as its exclusive Mobile WiMAX network supplier. Alem Communications via its subsidiary Digital TV launched its first commercial Mobile WiMAX service in Almaty, the economic hub of Kazakhstan on May 1st, after the successful soft launch of the service earlier in March.  more
