Chinese Lab Tests First Mobile WiMAX Forum-Certified Products

­Agilent Technologies has announced that the China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), a division of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and a WiMAX Forum(r) Designated Certification Laboratory (WFDCL), has successfully used its N6430A Series Mobile WiMAX Protocol Conformance Test system to complete the first test of Mobile WiMAX products in mainland China. The test was conducted in June.  more

Harris Stratex Networks Wins Indian Mobile WiMAX Contract

Harris Stratex Networks says that it has won a mobile WiMAX deployment contract fro m India's BSNL. ­Under the multi-year contract, Harris Stratex will supply its StarMAX WiMAX solution to extend BSNL's public wireless access network to provide high-speed wireless mobility services to enterprise and retail customers in urban areas across the southern Indian state of Kerala.  more

Alvarion Wins Italian Mobile WiMAX Contract

Alvarion says that it has won a Mobile WiMAX deployment contract from Aria, the only telecom operator in Italy with a national WiMAX license. Under the agreement, Aria will build a network at the 3.5 GHz frequency to offer broadband services to all 21 Italian regions.  more

Alvarion Wins Taiwanese Mobile WiMAX Contract

Alvarion says that it has won a new Mobile WiMAX network contract from Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom for the northeastern county of Yilan. The network has been contracted by the local government. The broadband wireless network built using Alvarion's end-to-end mobile WiMAX solution and supported by eASPNet services covers Lodong Town, Yilan City, and popular scenic areas in Yilan County.  more

Papua New Guinea getting a Mobile WiMAX Network

Alvarion has won a contract to deploy the first Mobile WiMAX network in Papua New Guinea for Telikom PNG. Alvarion’s local partner for this project is Telrad Networks. The operator’s first network in the capital city of Port Moresby was launched this month and is expected to provide connectivity to approximately 1,500 users. The second network to be deployed in the city of Lae is planned to go live in the second quarter of 2009. Further expansion is expected at the end of 2009, extending the network to all regional cities as part of the master plan to achieve nationwide coverage for 55,000 end-users.  more

WiMAX Broadband Services to Generate $15bn by 2014
