Opera Launches Upgraded Mobile Browser

Mobile web browser vendor, Opera Mobile has announced the launch of an updated version of its software for Windows Mobile based phones. The browser now comes with a server sided compression service, similar to that offered with the Opera Mini browser that shrinks web pages before they are delivered to the mobile phone.  more

Opera Overtakes iPhone in Mobile Web Traffic Stats

The Opera mobile browser has overtaken the iPhone browser in May according to data from StatCounter Global Stats. In May Opera took 24.6% of the worldwide market compared to 22.3% for iPhone. Nokia retains third place with 17.9%. However, if one includes iPod Touch then Apple browsers still lead with iPod Touch alone taking 14.9% of the market in May.  more

U.S. consumers view the most data-intensive pages on the mobile Web

Mobile web browser developer. Opera has noted that in April 2009, Opera Mini had over 23.4 million users, up more than 140% compared to April 2008. Opera Mini users viewed nearly 8.7 billion pages in April 2009. Since April 2008, page views have increased 249%.  more

Virgin Mobile to Support Opera Mini Mobile Web Browser

Sprint Nextel Offers Software Upgrade for HTC Smartphones

Sprint Nextel is offering a software update for the HTC supplied Touch and Mogul smartphones to add support for EV-DO Rev. A data speeds as well as Windows Mobile 6.1. The upgrade also includes enhanced GPS capabilities, allowing support of popular applications such as Sprint Navigation. Sprint Navigation provides audio and visual turn-by-turn directions, more than 10 million local listings, and one-click traffic rerouting, similar to an in-vehicle GPS system.  more

Opera to Port their Mobile Web Browser to BREW Handsets

India's Tata Teleservices has secured an agreement with the Norway based, Opera Software to port their Java based mobile web browser onto Brew-enabled handsets which will be supplied by Huawei. The new browser will also be multi-lingual to support the various local languages in India.  more

Opera Releases Java based Web Browser for All Phones

The web browser developer, Opera Software has announced the worldwide release of Opera Mini, the full Web browser that runs on almost every mobile phone, including low- and mid-end handsets. The launch follows the trials of Opera Mini in the Nordics and in Germany during the fall of 2005, which resulted in a user base of over one million people. Opera Mini is available free of charge via WAP download, or for a small fee via SMS. more

Opera browser appearing in Chinese smartphones

Opera Software has announced that China's ZTE has chosen its mobile Web browser for their new GSM mobile phone in China, the e3. The ZTE e3 is a Linux-based smartphone geared toward the Chinese business market, and the first smartphone with Opera to be manufactured by a Chinese device vendor for the Chinese market. The Chinese Technology Development Plan (863) lists the ZTE e3 as one of the most important smartphone projects in China. more
