Mobile TV License Granted in the United Arab Emirates

­The UAE's telecoms regulator, the TRA has awarded a Mobile TV license to a consortium that includes both mobile networks, for a payment of AED 17 million (US$4.6 million). The license is for ten years, with a five-year exclusivity period.  more

Motorola Win Polish Mobile TV Contract

Motorola says that it has won a Mobile TV deployment contract in Poland. The network, operated by INFO-TV-FM will be deployed in Warsaw and 9 other Polish cities, by the end of 2009. The Motorola Mobile TV solution, comprising video headend and transmitters, is based on DVB-H and OMA BCAST standards.  more

Commission issues guidelines to get Mobile TV on Europeans' mobile phones

The European Commission has taken a decisive step towards the promotion of Mobile TV services within the EU. It has published a set of guidelines for the authorisation of Mobile TV to accelerate roll-out of the service across Europe. The commercial services launched before summer 2008 in some European countries show that there is an increasing consumer demand: in the Netherlands alone, 10 000 users had already subscribed to the service at the beginning of autumn.  more

Mobile TV Trial Comes to an End in Singapore

After 18 months, Singapore DigitalĂ's TV2GO mobile TV trial will shut-down at the end of this month - in preparation for a possible commercial launch. Aimed at providing technical experience in the implementation and operation of digital video broadcasting-handheld (DVB-H) services, the TV2GO trial has also enabled a range of interactive services to be road-tested. This has allowed Singapore Digital, a digital broadcast services company, to obtain market feedback on new mobile TV applications, content and viewing habits.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Expands Italian Mobile TV Network

Alcatel-Lucent has signed a turnkey equipment and services contract with Hutchison 3G Italia to expand and optimize its broadcast Mobile TV network throughout Italy. Alcatel-Lucent's solution for 3 Italia, based on its DVB-H terrestrial transmitters, its remote monitoring system and including network integration services, will enable 3 Italia to increase the indoor and outdoor coverage of its broadcast Mobile TV network, while optimizing network efficiency for enhanced Mobile TV service delivery.  more

KPN Launches Mobile TV Services in The Netherlands

Dutch operator, KPN has launched a MobileTV service - based on kit supplied by Nokia Siemens Networks. The MobielTV service initially offers 10 television channels with high-quality images. The service is made available through a broadcast network based on the Digital Video Broadcast for Handheld (DVB-H), the European standard for mobile television, and can be watched on DVB-H-enabled mobile devices.  more

Mobile Video Increasingly Includes Internet Video

In the past year, two forces have emerged to radically change the definition of "mobile video," reports In-Stat. First, Internet delivery of user-generated and professionally produced content is moving viewers from their living rooms to their computers, the high-tech market research firm says. Second, high-quality mobile devices that use wireless networks (such as Apple's Wi-Fi iPhone and iPod Touch) are improving mobile access to the Internet in general.  more
