Sybase Buys Mobile Payment Vendor

Sybase has announced that it has acquired privately held, paybox Solutions, a developer of mobile payment solutions for an undisclosed amount. Sybase says that it will now provide its customers with a full suite of mobile payment solutions enabling their customers to undertake person-to-person remittances, make payments for goods and services, top-up mobile airtime and pay bills from a mobile device, in both developed and emerging markets.  more

NFC Not an Answer for Mobile Payments, But Alternatives Offer Promise

Once, NFC (Near Field Communication) was the leading contender among technologies that could enable mobile payments. But NFC has developed more slowly than anticipated, and will not offer viable large-scale mobile payment solutions for at least six years. Kenyan Operator to Offer Mobile Money Transfers from the UK

ViVOtech Provided NFC Provisioning Software for Phones Enabled with Visa payWave

A new analysis of the NFC mobile payments opportunity forecasts that 700 million mobile subscribers globally will have phones equipped with NFC contactless technology by 2013.
