UK Networks Agree to Publish Standardised Information about Internet Services

­A number of the UK's internet providers and mobile networks have signed up to a voluntary code-of-practice that will govern how they advertise their internet services to customers. Together these companies - BSkyB, BT, O2, TalkTalk, Three, Virgin Media and Vodafone - account for 90% of all fixed-line broadband customers and 60% of all mobile customers in the UK.  more

Global Data Revenues to Reach $500 Billion by 2015

­Almost half of U.S. mobile phone users pay for mobile Internet access, and the popularity of mobile data services will continue to grow revenues for carriers, according to international research firm Parks Associates. Percentages of paying consumers are even higher for smartphone owners: 95% pay for SMS, 92% pay for Internet access, 83% pay for mobile email, 63% pay for mobile navigation, and 43% pay for mobile video.  more

T-Mobile Changes Mobile Data Fair Use Policies

­T-Mobile UK has announced changes to its unlimited mobile internet tariff to include a fair-use limit of 500Mb for multimedia files. According to T-Mobile, browsing means looking at websites and checking email, but not watching videos, downloading files or playing games.  more

Google Retakes Top Spot in Mobile Web Charts from Facebook

­The year-end review of the most popular websites on mobile phones using the Opera Mini mobile web browser shows that Google once again rests at the top of the State of the Mobile Web top 30 list. In 2009, Facebook was king of the mobile Web. In 2010, Google returned to claim the top spot among more than 80 million Opera Mini users worldwide, knocking Facebook to the second spot.  more

Apple's iPhone is Most Popular Mobile Web Phone in Myanmar

The latest traffic report from Opera web browsers has found, probably surprisingly, that Apple's iPhone is the most popular handset used by Opera Mini users in the secretive country of Myanmar (Burma). Ten Million Germans Accessing Mobile Internet Services

At least 10 million Germans regularly access the mobile internet via their mobile phones. This represents around 17% of the total mobile subscriber base, concludes a survey by Bitkom. Around eight million use their phones to visit websites (13 percent of mobile phone owners), 4 million write e-mails (7 percent) and also 4 million use downloadable apps (7 percent).  more
