Spanish Operator Launches SMS 2.0

Colibria reports that its IM and Presence Server and mobile clients have been deployed by Spain's Telefonica Moviles Espana, to launch its new messaging service, SMS 2.0. Telefonica Moviles's subscribers will now have access to the new messaging service, SMS 2.0, which is enhancing existing SMS by adding features such as real-time messaging, buddy lists, presence information, group messaging and the ability to track entire conversations. more

Yahoo! Messenger is the #1 Mobile Instant Messenger Application

Yahoo! Messenger rises to the top among mobile IM applications, according to Telephia. The Telephia Mobile Internet Report shows that nearly 7.9 million mobile users logged onto Yahoo! Messenger via their wireless device in December 2005, reaching nearly 4% of all wireless subscribers. AOL Instant Messenger secured a reach of 3.6% with an audience of more than 7.3 million wireless consumers, while MSN Messenger attracted an audience of nearly 4.3 million, reaching 2.1%. more

Comverse has commenced work with Australia's Optus to deliver its Mobile Instant Messaging service based on it's Mobile IM solution. AOL instant messenger for Cingular users

The USA's Cingular Wireless has announced the launch of Mobile Instant Messaging for Cingular customers using AOL Instant MessengerT (AIM) and ICQ services. The expanded partnership with America Online lets Cingular customers see when their friends, family and colleagues are online and are able to send and receive real-time text messages on their wireless phones. more

TCS to offer IM services

TeleCommunication Systems, (TCS) has signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement with the Instant Messaging developer, MessageVine. The agreement calls for the integration of the MessageVine IM Server with several TCS text messaging and location products. With the combined solution, wireless operators can establish their own instant messaging service by letting subscribers access a branded client interface. In other words, wireless carriers may display their own brand name on the subscribers' handset screens as subscribers use their instant messaging service. more
