A new report from Portio Research focused on mobile messaging has suggested that SMS will continue to be the cash cow of mobile data revenues for some time to come. Traffic volumes and revenues continue to confound predictions and are expected to keep growing throughout the global economic downturn. Indeed the whole mobile messaging industry worth US$130 billion in 2008 is predicted to be worth US$224 billion by 2013, 60 percent of non-voice service revenues.  more

Global Consumer Mobile Messaging To Exceed $88 Billion By 2012

Total spending on mobile messaging services by consumers will rise 15% from $65 billion in 2007 to over $88 billion by 2012, according to a new Strategy Analytics report. Nine of 10 Americans Would Support New Laws to Ban Driving While Texting

Nine out of ten (89 percent) American adults believe that sending text messages or emails while driving is distracting, dangerous, and should be outlawed, according to a new survey commissioned by mobile messaging service Pinger and conducted by Harris Interactive. Similar numbers (91 percent) of adults thought that drivers distracted by sending text messages or mobile email were as dangerous as drivers who had a couple of drinks. more

Vodafone To Support Microsoft Mobile Platform

Vodafone has announced the launch of a Microsoft based email platform. This solution is based on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and incorporates the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) which includes Direct Push Technology and enhanced security features. From March, Vodafone will deploy a range of Windows Mobile 5.0-powered devices with Direct Push Technology to corporate and small and medium sized business (SMB) customers in France, Germany and the UK. The service will also be available to corporate and SMB customers in other countries during 2006. more
