European Parliament Votes to Approve Cuts on Roaming Charges

The European Parliament, in its plenary session in Strasbourg, has voted to approve new rules on SMS and mobile data charges when roaming. The Parliament also voted for further cuts in the price of mobile phone calls while roaming in another EU country. The present cap for a mobile phone call made abroad will progressively drop from EUR0.46 to EUR0.35 per minute by July 2011, and from EUR0.22 today to EUR0.11 for mobile calls received while roaming abroad.   more

UK Consumers Rate Voice and SMS Costs More Important than Mobile Data Services

British consumers view call and text prices as more important than 3G and social networking capabilities, research commissioned by UK based firm, OpenCloud has found. In a survey of 1,000 consumers, over 80 per cent of consumers see call and text prices as the most important factors when looking for a new phone, whereas two-thirds of respondents view social networking applications as luxury additions and non-essential.  more

Third of iPhone Owners Used a Location Based Service in Q4 2008

US based mobile social network site, Limbo and GfK Technology have published a Mobile Advertising Report (MAR), which reveals that iPhone users are more than twice as likely as non-iPhone users to browse the mobile Web and more than three times as likely to use a location-based service (LBS) or a location-based social network.  more

Growing demand for location-based services in advanced mobile markets

Location-based services (LBS) in Asia-Pacific are expected to see strong growth in the next five years, with wider adoption in the more advanced and saturated mobile and mobile data markets. New analysis from Frost & Sullivan finds that the mobile LBS market covering 13 Asia-Pac countries earned revenues of US$383.6 million in 2007 and expects this to reach US$2.8 billion by end-2013, at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 39.3 percent (2007-2013).  more
