TeliaSonera Sales Up on Currecy Gains - Profits Flat
TeliaSonera has reported that its first-quarter sales increased by 11.5% to SEK 27.2 billion (US$3.25 billion), thanks largely to currency fluctuations. EBITDA, excluding non-recurring items, increased 13.7 percent to SEK 8.8 billion (US$1 billion). more

European Parliament Votes to Approve Cuts on Roaming Charges
The European Parliament, in its plenary session in Strasbourg, has voted to approve new rules on SMS and mobile data charges when roaming. The Parliament also voted for further cuts in the price of mobile phone calls while roaming in another EU country. The present cap for a mobile phone call made abroad will progressively drop from EUR0.46 to EUR0.35 per minute by July 2011, and from EUR0.22 today to EUR0.11 for mobile calls received while roaming abroad. more

Intelligent Congestion Management Can Reduce Mobile Broadband Costs
Camiant, which offers mobile data policy control software has commissioned a report which finds that active management of mobile broadband congestion can result in cost savings of upwards of 20% for network operators. The report, written by Omnitele, concludes that controlling the bandwidth consumption of certain users solely during peak hours allows maximum usage of the network by all subscribers when capacity is available while constraining the need for additional network capacity. more

Nokia Siemens Completes 2nd Phase of China Mobile TD-SCDMA Rollout
Nokia Siemens Networks has announced that it is one of first vendors to complete phase two deployment of China Mobile's 3G network, based on TD-SCDMA technology. Femtocells Deliver 5-Times Speed of Macro Network in Operator Trials
Femtocell developer, Airvana has published results of performance tests of the company's HubBub CDMA femtocell which it says demonstrated dramatic improvements for indoor 3G coverage and performance when compared with using the existing macro-cellular network alone. Based on the results of side-by-side testing, a typical HubBub user can expect to achieve broadband data rates throughout their house of approximately five times that of the existing wireless macro network. more
