Singapore's StarHub, in partnership with Huawei has announced the launch of StarHub's HSPA+ upgrade - offering peak mobile data downloads of up to 21Mbps. When Australian operator, Telstra launched its HSPA+ upgrade, it said that customers could expect the average download speed to be around 8Mbps.  more

Austria Gets Europe's First HSPA+ Mobile Data Network

Telekom Austria's mobile subsidiary, mobilkom austria, has become the first operator in Europe to launch HSPA+ services - offering a potential mobile data download speed of 21 Mbps. 3G-4G to Account for 30% of Global Wireless Subscriptions by 2013

At the end of 2008, only 11% of worldwide wireless subscriptions were 3G. By the end of 2013, the percentage of 3G and 4G subscriptions will reach 30%, reports In-Stat. This trend is reflected in fourth quarter 2008 wireless infrastructure contract awards.  more

Growing demand for location-based services in advanced mobile markets

Location-based services (LBS) in Asia-Pacific are expected to see strong growth in the next five years, with wider adoption in the more advanced and saturated mobile and mobile data markets. New analysis from Frost & Sullivan finds that the mobile LBS market covering 13 Asia-Pac countries earned revenues of US$383.6 million in 2007 and expects this to reach US$2.8 billion by end-2013, at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 39.3 percent (2007-2013).  more

HSPA expected to drive femtocell market; operators taking cautious approach

High speed packet access (HSPA) is shaping up to be the key driver behind future femtocell adoption, says a new report from analyst firm Infonetics Research. Once users are hooked on high speed mobile data services, the report contends, subscribing to a femtocell service could follow to ensure coverage and capacity consistency for services delivered to the home or office.  more

Etisalat upgrading to HSDPA+

UAE based mobile operator, Etisalat has confirmed that it is planning an upgrade of its network to support HSPA+ services. The upgrade should be ready by the second or third quarter of 2009, Marwan Mohammed Al Qadi, Acting Senior Manager, product Marketing at Etisalat told AME Info.  more
