European Parliament Votes to Approve Cuts on Roaming Charges
The European Parliament, in its plenary session in Strasbourg, has voted to approve new rules on SMS and mobile data charges when roaming. The Parliament also voted for further cuts in the price of mobile phone calls while roaming in another EU country. The present cap for a mobile phone call made abroad will progressively drop from EUR0.46 to EUR0.35 per minute by July 2011, and from EUR0.22 today to EUR0.11 for mobile calls received while roaming abroad. more

EU Plans to Cut Roaming SMS Costs
The 2.5 billion text messages sent every year by roaming customers in the European Union cost over 10 times more than domestic short messages (SMS) - claims figures released by the European Commission. The average cost of a roaming text message in the EU between October 2007 and March 2008 was €0.29 according to the European RegulatorsÃ' Group (ERG), but can be as high as €0.80 for travellers from Belgium. more

European Operators Slash Mobile Data Roaming Rates
In a move which is generally considered to be a pre-emptive move to evade further regulatory pressures, five mobile operators with networks covering 10 European markets and a population of more than 295 million - 60 per cent of the European Union's total 495 million have announced significant cuts to their mobile data roaming tariffs. more
