Charity Text Messages to be Tax Free in the UK
Premium rate text messages sent in the UK as a way of donating to charities will no longer be subjected to a sales tax, under a deal agreed by the Mobile Data Association. The new framework means charities of all sizes will be able to receive an additional 15% (standard rate of VAT) for donations sent via text message. In the past this has only happened for large national charitable events such as Comic Relief. more

UK's New Mobile Billing Platform Reducing Customer Complaints
UK based mobile billing supplier, Bango has reported positive key performance indicators, based on an analysis of the first million transactions the company has processed since the launch of Payforit in the UK mobile market earlier this year. 92% of transactions were completed successfully with an error rate of less than 1%. And with refund levels at below 0.01%, there was a significant reduction in the need for expensive customer care. more

Brits Sending 4,000 SMSs per second
According to figures from the UK's Mobile Data Association (MDA), Brits are now sending as many SMSs per week as they sent in the entire of 1999 - that is 1.2 billion SMSs sent. The research shows a 25% growth compared to 2006 and has caused the MDA to revise it annual predicted total figure from 48bn to 52bn messages in 2007. more

Record Numbers of Brits Using Wireless Internet Services
The number of UK mobile phone users accessing the internet on their handsets continued to grow during the last quarter of 2006. According to figures announced by the Mobile Data Association (MDA), an overall total of 45.6 million unique users were recorded as having used their phones for downloads and browsing the mobile internet in the UK throughout October, November and December last year, an average of 15 million each month. These figures show a quarterly increase in the average unique users per month from 13 to 15 million. more

Brits Sent Over 4 Billion SMSs in December
The UK text messaging total broke through the 4 billion barrier for the first time during December 2006, according to figures announced today by the Mobile Data Association (MDA). December's remarkable total of 4.3 billion takes the overall figure for 2006 to 41.8 billion, surpassing the MDA's prediction of 40 billion and giving a daily average for the year of 114 million. more

Brits Send One Million MMS Per Day
The UK's Mobile Data Association (MDA) has published its firstly monthly report into MMS usage in the UK.During the third quarter of 2006, a total of 88 million picture messages (MMS) were sent throughout the UK - on average, almost 1 million per day throughout July, August and September. October's total was the highest yet, with 30 million picture messages sent across the networks. more

Yet another record-breaking month for text messaging in the UK as July saw the total number of text messages sent soar to over 3.5 billion, according to figures released by the Mobile Data Association (MDA) On average 113 million messages were sent per day throughout last month, and the total is an increase of almost 30% on the total sent during the same period in 2005. more

Half of UK Phones have Cameras
The number of MMS-capable, camera-ready handsets currently in use across the UK now exceeds 33.5 million. The Mobile Data Association (MDA) confirmed these latest statistics to indicate the extent to which phones can now take pictures and send/receive multimedia messages. This represents more than 50% of the 67 million handsets in use in the UK today. more
