Mongolia Gets HSPA Network Upgrade

Mongolian operator MobiCom has launched a HSPA upgrade, with the network supplied by Ericsson. The launch enables MobiCom to introduce mobile broadband services to its subscribers across Mongolia, starting in the capital Ulaanbaatar where about 40 percent of the country's 3 million inhabitants live.  more

Motorola Wins Chinese 3G Contract

Motorola says that it has won a W-CDMA contract with China Unicom for an undisclosed amount. Under the contract, Motorola will provide China Unicom with W-CDMA radio access network equipment, packet switched core network (PS core), and 2G/3G interoperability functions that will enable the integration of China Unicom's GSM and W-CDMA networks.  more

Ericsson Wins 4-Year 3G Upgrade Contract in Turkey

Turkish operator Avea has signed a four year contract with Ericsson for a WCDMA/HSPA upgrade. Under the agreement, Ericsson will be one of the main suppliers and will integrate and deploy WCDMA/HSPA radio access and packet core networks, as well as a complete mobile-backhaul solution based on microwave transmission and optical transport.  more

EU Moves Closer to Approving 3G at 900Mhz

BSNL Launches 3G Services in 11 Cities

Ericsson has issued an update on its Sept 2007 contract win from India's BSNL - and says it achieved the country's biggest simultaneous launch of 3G services to date, across 11 major cities. As part of its roll-out strategy, BSNL plans to launch 3G services using WCDMA/HSPA technology across more than 700 cities in the first phase.  more

Nortel Completes LTE-TDD Wireless Demo in China

Nortel says that it has successfully completed the first end-to-end video streaming session using a Time Division Duplex (TDD)-based LTE network, working with commercial grade LTE Base Station and device prototypes in China. This is an important milestone in the development of next generation wireless services for TD-SCDMA mobile network deployments in China, as well as advancing the deployment of LTE for service providers using TDD spectrum.  more

Ericsson Wins Luxembourg 3G Network Replacement Contract

Ericsson says that it has won a 6-year contract from Luxembourg based mobile operator, P&T to replace its existing nationwide WCDMA/HSPA access network. This will improve the performance of LUXGSM's mobile broadband services and enable peak speeds of up to 7.2Mbps. The contract also covers network deployment and integration, as well as support services.  more
