Motorola Wins Chinese 3G Contract
Motorola says that it has won a W-CDMA contract with China Unicom for an undisclosed amount. Under the contract, Motorola will provide China Unicom with W-CDMA radio access network equipment, packet switched core network (PS core), and 2G/3G interoperability functions that will enable the integration of China Unicom's GSM and W-CDMA networks. more

Arqiva named as principal cell site partner for 3G network integration project
Mobile Broadband Network Limited (MBNL), the network joint venture between T-Mobile UK and Hutchison 3G UK, has selected Arqiva as its strategic partner for the provision of cell sites. Under the terms of the 10-year agreement, Arqiva will provide MBNL with 5,100 sites and Arqiva will have exclusive marketing rights for site sharing services on a further 2,500 sites. more

Vodafone Trialling Microwave Ethernet for 3G Backhaul
Vodafone is trialling new microwave technology that it expects to quadruple current backhaul capacity in channelling voice and data traffic away from base stations. Bosnian Network Orders 3G Infrastructure
Bosnia and Herzegovina based mobile operator, BH Telecom has signed a 3G HSPA supply contract with Ericsson Nikola Tesla. Ericsson Nikola Tesla shall provide a HSPA network, including a radio access network and Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch and Video Gateway solutions which shall enable video service to BH Telecom's end users. more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins South African 3G Contract
Alcatel-Lucent has won a EUR22 million (US$30 million) contract from South Africa's Vodacom to design, build and deploy an upgrade of its existing 3G network. The enhanced 3G wireless network will improve Vodacom's network voice-quality and data-transmission speeds, while further strengthening indoor coverage in urban areas. more
