Evolving Landscape of Mobile Broadband in Asia
Asia's mobile subscriber total is expected to surpass 2 billion subscribers by 2012 when 63 percent of the regions' residents are expected to own a mobile phone. However, the fact remains that in 2008 only 8 percent of the region's subscriber base was using 3G and launches in several Asian markets have left much to be desired in terms of subscriber and revenue uptake. more

BSNL Launches 3G Services in 11 Cities
Ericsson has issued an update on its Sept 2007 contract win from India's BSNL - and says it achieved the country's biggest simultaneous launch of 3G services to date, across 11 major cities. As part of its roll-out strategy, BSNL plans to launch 3G services using WCDMA/HSPA technology across more than 700 cities in the first phase. more

Digital dividend - France is paving the way for harmonised decisions across Europe
The French Government this week announced its decision to share 'digital-dividend' spectrum between both electronic communications and audiovisual services, following the recommendation of the Digital Dividend Parliamentary Commission published in July 2008. Analysts from Analysys Mason believes that this decision represents an important contribution to achieving a critical mass of users of mobile broadband services. If similar actions are undertaken by other Member States, it will also be a key step in reaching fully harmonised decisions across the EU. more
