Telefonica Conducts 1st Tests of LTE Network in Spain

Spain's Telefónica has conducted its first tests on a live LTE network, installed at its Demonstrations Centre in Madrid. These initial real demonstrations or tests consisted of a VoIP call, and a videocall using an LTE mini-network installed by Ericsson; a video conference, and data and images downloads at speeds in excess of 140 Mbps, around 10 times those possible with current 3G networks using HSPA technology.  more

T-Mobile USA has added to its 3G device portfolio a HSDPA capable USB Laptop Stick manufactured by Huawei, which also offers Wi-Fi connectivity. Orange to Sell LG Wrist-Watch Phone

Orange says that it will be the first operator to offer the LG Watch phone (LG G910) in Europe. The wrist watch style phone comes with a blue-tooth headset and features a full touch-screen interface, 3G HSDPA and video-calling capabilities.  more

Asian Operators Agree to Improved Roaming for BlackBerry Users

The Asian mobile operators group, Conexus Mobile Alliance has announced the start of the regional rollout of a mobile data roaming plan for BlackBerry smartphones among Alliance members. iPass Mobile Broadband Network Expands to Scandinavia

Wi-Fi roaming provider, iPass announced a partnership agreement with 3 Scandinavia, part of the Hutchison Whampoa 3 Group of companies, which will provide iPass customers with access to its 3G network in Sweden - including mobile data in-bundle roaming into Denmark. Under the terms of the agreement, iPass will integrate 3's HSDPA and HSUPA network into its iPass Mobile Office service, which unifies remote and mobile connectivity across more than 160 countries.  more

StarHub Tripple 3G Data Upload Speeds

Singapore's StarHub has upgraded its HSPA network nationwide to 5.76Mbps on the uplink, tripling its current mobile broadband upload capacity of 1.9Mbps. When completed in end December 2008, the upgrade will make StarHub the first operator in Asia to have a nationwide High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) network at 5.76Mbps.  more

Emerging Markets Mobile Penetration to Rrise from 46% in 2008 to 95% by 2013

Mobile penetration rates are forecast to rise from 46% in 2008 to 95% by 2013 according to a new survey of 34 emerging market countries published by Tariff Consultancy. Already subscribers in the 34 countries total over 2.1 billion users (based on operator statistics as of mid-2008) which accounts for half of the world's mobile users (based on ITU estimates). By 2013 the 34 countries will have grown to 4.3 billion mobile users and will account for around two thirds of global mobile users  more

Vodafone Starts Selling 3G PC Card for 900Mhz HSPA Networks

Option has started shipping a new wireless broadband ExpressCard to Vodafone - which also supports HSPA services at 900Mhz. Exclusively developed for the Vodafone Group and its Partner Networks, the new ExpressCard is designed to achieve peak HSDPA download speeds of 7.2 Mbps with HSUPA uploads at up to 5.76 Mbps - depending on the network availability.  more
