New research from mobile billing provider, mBlox predicts that within three years, carriers will more than double their revenues from off-portal entertainment. The research shows that carrier revenues will grow to $8 billion by 2011 compared to $3 billion in 2007 due in large part to providing value added and enabling services to off-portal publishers. more

What Were China's 600 Million Mobile Users 'Searching' For Last Year?
The Chinese mobile search engine, mInfo is releasing some key search statistics that shed light on real user behavior and the state of the sector in the world's largest wireless phone market. Although some new players entered the market in 2007, there was also a shake out of the less competitive firms who focused solely on WAP for delivering their services. The delays in 3G license issuance and network deployment combined with new carrier data pricing/access policies have caused considerable strain on these firms as active WAP users actually decreased from 2006 levels. Fortunately, users found alternative means of accessing the information they needed. According to iResearch, the number of mobile search users grew to 61 million by the end of 2007, and is forecasted to reach 117 million by 2008 and to over 200 million by 2010. more

Looking back over 2007, UK based mobile billing provider, Bango reports strong commercial gains for UK operators that moved to open up the mobile web, with Vodafone UK rising to first place in the value of off-portal content sales.
