Vietnam Plans to Award 3G Licenses in Q2 2009

Vietnam Formally Grants GSM License to HT Telecom

Vietnamese Operator Confirms CDMA to GSM Migration

South Korea delays 3G auction - again
At the request of several local and foreign companies, the South Korean government has announced that it is to delay the issuing of its third and final 3G license. The Ministry of Information and Communications minister, Ahn Byung-yub said that the delay will allow more companies to bid for the cdma2000 based license, although he did not say when the license would now be awarded. Hanaro Telecom is still trying to put together a consortium to bid for the license, and currently it is the only company that has registered an interest. Speculation that the delay was to allow it more time to bid, was ended when Hanaro Telecom announced that it will still be ready by the original deadline of Feb 28th. " more

South Korea moves to offer cdma2000 incentives
The South Korean Ministry of Information and Communications has announced that companies that belong to the consortium lead by SK Telecom and Korea Telecom, which won a W-CDMA license will be allowed to also bid for a cdma2000 license next month. SK Telecom and Korea Telecom themselves will not be allowed to bid for the third 3G license. The Ministry said it will allow all content providers, telecommunications equipment makers and other companies which belong to the Korea Telecom and SK Telecom consortia to re-bid for the coming auction by forming grand consortia. The ministry added that it will also offer financial incentives to the winning consortium to use cdma2000. more
