India Considering Ban on Chinese Supplied Network Infrastructure
The Indian government is proposing expanding a partial ban on Chinese supplied mobile phones to include all telecoms equipment from Chinese suppliers, including Huawei and ZTE. The Department of Telecom (DoT) has proposed to impose the ban on Chinese vendors in 20 of the country's 22 circles, that it considers to be sensitive due to their proximity to with international borders, although this many be later reduced to 14 circles. more

While many countries are demanding that anyone buying a SIM card has to provide proof of identity - it is reported that India may go a stage further and require references from two existing cellular customers before a person can buy a new subscription. more

Indian Operators Get Warning Over Coverage Breaches
India's Department of Telecom (DoT) has issued warnings to several operators who are reported to be breaching restrictions on providing cellular coverage too close to India's international borders. The four operators, Bharti Airtel, Hutch, Reliance and BSNL have been found to have coverage along the 'no service zones' which extend 500 meters along the border. more
