WiMAX Forum Speeds Up Development of New WiMAX Standards

The WiMAX Forum has launched an initiative to accelerate WiMAX features that enhance the average performance of its current Release 1 technology by more than 50 percent while remaining compliant with the IEEE Standard 802.16e. Based on this accelerated schedule, certified products using these enhancements are expected in late 2010.  more

Alvarion and Huawei Join WiMAX Patents Group

Alvarion and Huawei have joined the Open Patent Alliance (OPA) - which manages the WiMAX patent pool. Alvarion and Huawei join current OPA members Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Clearwire, Intel, and Samsung Electronics. As a result, it is expected that licensing terms for patents pertaining to WiMAX, including the associated royalty rates will be more predictable, transparent, and at lower cost. Furthermore the WiMAX patent pool may act as a "one stop shop" where companies building WiMAX solutions can obtain use of the patents more simply, efficiently and cost effectively, under a more competitive royalty structure that charges only for the features required to develop WiMAX products.  more

NEC Working on Updated WiMAX Product Range

NEC has announced that it is to start working on a range of new WiMAX products which will include ArrayComm's A-MAS multi-antenna signal processing software. The joint effort will deliver WiMAX base station products beginning mid-2009.  more

RAD Unveils Wireless Multiplexer for "Data Hungry" Applications

RAD Data Communications has unveiled a broadband wireless multiplexer, which delivers which the company says is a full duplex, 50-Mbps capacity multi point-to-point broadband wireless transmission device. It will transport both legacy TDM and next generation Ethernet services over licence-free 2.3 to 2.5 GHz and 4.9 to 5.9 GHz bands.  more

Cisco Wins Thailand WiMAX Contract

Thailand's TT&T is deploying the first Cisco based WiMAX network in Asia Pacific at Mae Fah Luang University. This will also be the first production WiMAX network in Thailand once the rollout is completed in September.  more
